Standard Overview
EN 50618 specifies requirements for electric cables used in photovoltaic (PV) systems. It covers flexible single-core cables designed for the interconnection of photovoltaic power systems, including solar modules, inverters, and other electrical equipment.
The standard defines requirements for cable construction, insulation and sheath materials, voltage rating, mechanical performance, and resistance to environmental conditions such as UV radiation, ozone, and temperature variations.
Key Requirements
Conductor: Flexible tinned copper conductor according to IEC 60228
Insulation: Halogen-free, UV-resistant insulation material
Sheath: Halogen-free, weather-resistant outer sheath
Voltage Rating: 1.5kV DC (commonly used for PV systems)
Performance: Resistance to UV, ozone, moisture, and outdoor conditions
Applications
Used for solar photovoltaic systems, solar farms, rooftop PV installations, and connections between PV modules and electrical equipment.
