ASTM B232 Aluminum Conductor Standard
Standard Overview
ASTM B232 specifies requirements for concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductors reinforced with coated steel wires (ACSR) used for overhead electrical transmission and distribution lines.
The standard defines the requirements for conductor materials, construction, dimensions, mechanical strength, and electrical characteristics. ACSR conductors are widely used where high tensile strength and long-span capability are required.
Key Requirements
Conductor Type: Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR)
Construction: Aluminum 1350-H19 wires stranded around a coated steel core
Core Material: Galvanized, aluminum-coated, or zinc-coated steel wires according to design requirements
Requirements: Conductor diameter, electrical resistance, tensile strength, and weight
Application: Overhead transmission and distribution systems
Applications
Used for overhead power transmission lines, long-span crossings, utility networks, and high-capacity distribution systems.
